Some drivers in Bartow and Gordon counties were the focus of road checks last weekend. More than 20 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The road checks were a part of a monthly initiative by the GSP's TAST group. Troup A Strike Team is a group of troopers that run road checks at random locations in different counties in the area. Friday and Saturday, troopers were spread out in 12 locations in Bartow.

Cpl. Darren Gleaton said they check for impaired drivers, child restraints, seat belts and any other violations. TAST meets and decides on the county and location of the road checks beforehand.

"We decide if there are any heavy traffic areas we want to focus on," he said.

Along with the DUI arrests, there were four wanted suspects apprehended, five suspended licenses arrests, one felony drug arrest and four misdemeanor arrests. In addition to the arrests, numerous citations were written.

Troopers from different posts, which make up Troop A, are divided out among the counties for the road checks. Troop A covers 14 counties and includes Rome, Canton, Jasper, LaFayette, Dalton, Ringgold, Cartersville, Calhoun and Fort Oglethorpe.

"We have guys dedicated and committed to aggressive enforcement," Gleaton said.
