Excel, Cass netters split

Excel stepped out of its division this week and claimed a split against Cass with the girls taking a 3-2 win and its boys falling 1-4.

Mark Hibbard, Excel tennis coach, said girls earning wins included in No. 1 singles, Abbey Hibbard won 6-2, 7-5; at the No. 2 line Catherine Harris won, 6-4, 6-3; and at the No. 3 line Caroline Moore took her match 6-2, 6-3. In doubles 1, Nikki Burkhalter and Taylor Vaughn lost to Cass' Ally Prewett and Emily Heater, 6-0, 6-1; doubles 2, Betsy Lochridge and Hallie Weismith lost to Lady Colonels' Hannah Delia and Brianna Summers, 6-2, 6-2.

In boys singles, No. 1, Excel's Ben Perkins won 6-4, 5-7, 7-6, and the tie break score was 8-6.

In singles, Cass' Jeremy Coone won 6-2, 6-1; and Cass got the other singles win by forfeit. In doubles, Cass' Joey Johnson and Brad Delee won 6-0, 6-1; and Cass won the second doubles match by forfeit.
