The Cass junior varsity tennis team won all the singles matches while Woodland's won all the doubles contests as the two cross-county rivals played each other in their JV tournament kickoff Thursday at Hamilton Crossing Park.
Kevin Tant, Woodland boys tennis coach, said he was encouraged by the play of the Wildcats.
"The doubles teams looked fantastic, and I see a great deal of promise from my singles players," he said.
In the girls singles matches, Cass' Hannah Howard beat Michelle Beouy, 9-8 (7-1), and Hannah Dunlap defeated Ashley Fuller, 8-1.
Woodland's Bailee Smith and April Webster defeated Tiffany Cline and Christina Monroe, 9-7.
In the second girls singles matches, Cass' Hali Rader defeated Catrina Cage, 8-6, and Helen Adkins of Cass bested Kelly Brooks, 8-3.
Woodland's Ålex Woods and Danielle Mitchell defeated Lucy Hornback and Polly Woods, 8-0.
In the boys singles matches, Kaleb McBrayer of Cass topped Brandon Parris of Woodland, 8-5, and Caleb Sanders of Cass defeated Woodland's Zach Putz, 8-6.
In doubles, Woodland's John Tate and John Conway defeated Darrien Munroe and Jason Purdy, 8-1.
In the other singles matchups, Caleb Sanders of Cass defeated Hayden Anderson, 8-0, and Darrien Munroe of Cass defeated Grayson Roberts, 8-5.
In the doubles match, Woodland's Max Corbin and Austin Gowan defeated Jason Purdy and Travis Martin, 8-1.
The JV tournament resumes today at 4:45 p.m. and begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
