The Adairsville City Council voted Thursday to close the Main Street utility payment drive-thru.

City Manager Pat Crook made the suggestion at Tuesday's work session citing that $3,000 to $4,000 could be saved in utility costs alone. Another advantage to closing the drive-thru is relocating much-needed help back to city hall.

The council also approved the appointment of Nicole Stephens to the position of city clerk. The position has been vacant since the retirement of former City Clerk Frieda Lance last month.

Also approved was the purchase and installation of a new telephone system utilizing Voice Over Internet Protocol at an estimated cost of $3,000.

Last on the agenda was a proclamation approved and signed marking the week of March 13-19, 2011, as Willy Wonka Week in coordination with the Adairsville High School spring performance of the musical "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."
