Woodland won the invitational with 115.5 points, followed by Dalton, with 93.5, and Lakeside High of DeKalb, with 88 points.
The girls team finished in third place with a score of 81.5. The invitational was won by Riverdale of Tennessee, with 102 points, with Lakeside High of Dekalb in second place with 94 points.
Adrian Steele, Woodland’s head boys track team coach, said the boys showing will give the team confidence and hopefully spur its performance the rest of the season.
“I think it gave us good competition today,” he said Saturday, “and we can use this to build our confidence. It helped us realize some things we need to work on, and it gave us a chance to push ourselves. It helped the guys to step up and push themselves a little harder than they have in dual and tri meets.”
Two students broke school records.
“Nathan Loe broke the school record at shot put with a throw of 54.5 feet,” the coach said. “Cameron Leonard broke the school record in the two mile with a time of 10 minutes, 15 seconds.”
Steele noted Woodland will be hosting an invitational this weekend and he is looking for improvement by both Woodland teams.
He said the Lady Wildcats were missing some key athletes this weekend and hope to improve their overall performance with their return.
Steele said both teams worked hard at the invitational Saturday.
“I’m extremely proud of them and we are hoping we can continue our success and break some more records at our invitational,” he said.
