That fertile combination helped Adairsville earn its first region win of the season by a 3-0 score over Rockmart.
The Lady Tigers scored in the sixth minute when Brooke Chagnon scored off an assist by Cassidy Greene. That score held up through the break.
Two minutes into the second half, Greene again connected with Chagnon, who promptly buried it in the net.
Five minutes later Chagnon got her hat trick by alertly following the ball in and pushing it in for a score when the goalie misplayed the ball.
Tia Hicks got the shutout in goal for the Lady Tigers.
The win raises the Adairsville overall record to 5-6, including 1-2 in Region 7A-AA.
The Lady Tigers visit Model on Thursday as they try to even up their subregion record. Game time is at 5 p.m.
North Cobb 6, Excel 1
Excel stayed close through five innings but a late surge by North Cobb Christian helped it grab a 6-1 victory over its Bartow County host Monday.
Zach daCamara kept the Eagles close through five and two-thirds innings, striking out nine while surrendering four hits and two earned runs.
“We kept it close through five innings and played pretty well,” head coach Michael Adcock said. “But we were inconsistent and made too many errors.”
Winston Smith led the Eagles at the plate, going 2 of 4 with a single, a double and a run scored. Tucker West was 1 of 2 with a double and Mason Butt was 1 of 4 with a single.
West pitched an inning in relief, recording one strikeout and giving up one earned run. Lane Blackwell relieved in the sixth inning, striking out one and allowing no hits.
Adcock said Excel is having to play through some injuries as well as errors.
“North Cobb did a good job of keeping us off balance,” the coach added.
