A man accused of impersonating a public employee nearly three years ago will appear before a jury next week, according to District Attorney Mickey Thacker.

An indictment filed in Bartow County Superior Court alleges that James William McConnell did the accused acts on or about Sept. 13, 2008. The indictment states McConnell falsely impersonated a paramedic with the intent to mislead another into believing he was actually a paramedic. The indictment was filed Aug. 6, 2010, and is just one of the cases Judge Shepherd Howell is expected to preside over.

Assistant District Attorney Rosemary Greene said Howell also is expected to preside over the aggravated child molestation trial of Carl Tommy Barnett Jr.

Between Jan. 1 and June 20, 2008, Barnett is accused of forcing a female child under the age of 14 to perform oral acts on him. In addition to the aggravated child molestation charge, Barnett is also charged with two counts of child molestation, two counts of cruelty to children and two counts of second-degree cruelty to children. Barnett also is accused of causing mental pain to a male child under the age of 18 by placing his fingers down the boy's throat causing him to gag.

Melanie Barnett also is on trial, charged with two counts of cruelty to children. The indictment alleges Barnett acted with criminal negligence by knowing the children were being abused and failing to act on their behalf.

Josh William Norris also is expected to appear before Judge Howell, charged with serious injury by vehicle. It's alleged that on or about Oct. 20, 2009, Norris, without malice, caused bodily harm to a female by reckless driving. The accident happened on Highway 61 and Norris is alleged to have passed another vehicle in a designated no passing zone.

In Judge David Smith's courtroom, sex offender Felicia Shonta Hall, also known as Felicia Grogan, is expected to appear before a jury for failure to register as a sex offender last June. Hall was convicted of felony sexual battery in 1996.

The aggravated child molestation trial of Herbert White and the aggravated assault, terroristic threats and aggravated stalking trial of Steven Karl Edwards also is expected to begin in Smith's courtroom.

The jury trials are scheduled to begin Monday at 9 a.m. at the Bartow County courthouse.
