Cartersville wrapped up its high school tennis regular season with 5-0 sweeps of the Pickens County's boys and girls teams Thursday.

"I was very, very pleased with their performances," head coach Julius Robberts said. "Everyone came out ready to play, and there was a lot of good footwork on their part. They responded well after we talked about some of their performances Tuesday."

Robberts said the win capped a successful regular season for the tennis teams. "I couldn't ask for any better for my first year as a high school tennis coach."

The coach also attributed the season's success in part to the guidance provided by the team's three seniors -- Maggie Dowling, Brock Hufstetler and Megan Patton, who also is the team captain.

"They showed very good leadership for our team and we're very proud of them," he said. "I enjoyed having them on these teams."

Robberts said the Canes (7-3, 5-0 in Region 7-AAA) and Lady Canes (7-2, 4-1) will now concentrate on the regional playoffs, which will be held April 13 in Dalton.

He said players have been asked to practice as much as possible with their teammates next week, which is spring break. "We will then practice Monday and Tuesday after they get back from break."

Winning for Cartersville were:

Boys singles, Trevor Gotkowski, 6-0, 6-0; Mitchell Scott, 6-0, 6-0; Hufstetler, 6-0, 6-0; boys doubles, Will Garner and Tyler Hill, 6-2, 6-0; Jonathan McMurdo and Jordan Eckert, 6-0, 6-0.
