For the third consecutive year, the Booth Western Art Museum will showcase the talents of budding young artists with the Cartersville and Bartow County Schools Art Show. On display in the Cartersville venue's Borderlands Gallery, the exhibit will display about five works from each participating primary and elementary school from Tuesday through May 12.

"The Booth values promoting young artists and instilling a love for art in young artists and also having them feel comfortable in an art museum. So it's an opportunity to do that for the kids," said Lisa Wheeler, director of education for the Booth museum, adding it always is a special moment when they see their artwork for the first time. "It's really exciting.

"We do this in our Borderlands Gallery on the lower level. The elevator doors open up and their faces just light up when they see the room [and] the exhibit."

At the Booth's recommendation, each school submitted four two-dimensional and one three-dimensional piece of art to highlight the students' hard work and creativity.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase some of the creative talents present in our schools," said Cindy Collar, art teacher for Cloverleaf Elementary School, in a news release.

Located at 501 Museum Drive in Cartersville, the 120,000-square-foot museum opened in 2003 and became a Smithsonian affiliate in 2006. Averaging 40,000 patrons per year, the Booth is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m.
