The Grand Theatre Entertainment Series, presented by Century Bank, concludes when the contemporary bluegrass band, The Grascals, performing at The Grand on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Grascals are among the most acclaimed bands on today's bluegrass scene, having won the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America's Bluegrass Band of the Year award in 2010, the International Bluegrass Music Association's Emerging Artist of the Year award in 2005 and earning its Entertainer of the Year honor in both 2006 and 2007. The Grascals' unique sound also has earned the band Grammy nominations for International Bluegrass Music Association's Best Bluegrass Album.

The band gained national attention when it toured with Dolly Parton in 2004. The Grascals released a three-song single EP in late 2004 and their self-titled debut in 2005. "Long List of Heartaches" arrived in the summer of 2006, followed by "Keep on Walkin'" in 2008. Ace banjo player Kristin Scott Benson joined the group for its fourth album, "The Famous Lefty Flynn's," which was released in 2010.

Whether being light-hearted and jovial or soul-searching and reflective, The Grascals are at the very top of their game with their last four CDs reaching the top of the Billboard bluegrass charts. Though it is still -- at least in bluegrass terms -- a new group, the web of friendships, band memberships, recordings and personal appearances that binds The Grascals together has produced an ensemble of cohesion and focused artistic direction.
