Both high school teams will be hosting matches at Dellinger Park next week.
"We don't know who we will be playing but we will learn soon," head coach Julius Robberts said.
He said the play Thursday showed determination on the part of the Cartersville athletes. "I'm proud of both teams. They both competed very well all day long. Obviously I would like both teams to have earned the No. 1 seed, but the girls played hard and that's all you can ask of them."
The Purple Hurricanes had advanced to the Region 7-AAA tournament as the No. 1 seed from the south on the strength of a 5-0 record.
The Lady Canes were the No. 2 seed from the south, based on their 4-1 record in their sub-region, placing second behind Allatoona.
On Thursday, the Canes defeated Dalton, 3-2, to earn the top seed. They defeated Heritage, 3-1, Thursday morning to play in the final.
The Lady Canes fell, 3-2, to Allatoona in the region championship match after having beaten LaFayette, 3-0, Thursday morning.
Robberts said the girls lost the deciding match against Allatoona by a 7-6 margin.
Robberts said the Lady Canes had a lot of stellar performances. "Our freshman, Maddie McGinnis, got her first big win in the regionals and Mallory Walker, our other freshman, put in a tremendous effort during a long day of competition."
The Canes won their region championship by claiming their singles matches.
Robberts noted the boys had a substitute player in the No. 2 doubles match -- Jacob Hoyt -- and said Hoyt and regular Jordan Eckert had a harder challenge since they hadn't been playing together all season.
Against Dalton, Trevor Gotkowski won 6-2, 6-0; Mitchell Scott won 7-6, 6-1; and Brock Hufstetler captured his match 6-4, 6-3.
Will Garner and Tyler Hill lost 6-4, 7-5, while Hoyt and Eckert lost 6-4, 6-4.
Against Allatoona, Maggie Dowling won 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, and McGinnis won 7-6, 6-3.
Adrienne Green fell 6-0, 6-3, and Megan Patton and Logan Bolen lost 1-6, 7-5, 6-7 while Sarah Vaughan and Mallory Walker were tripped up 6-3, 6-7, 6-7.
