According to sources, a deputy shot a suspect who was reportedly armed with knives. It was reported he was alive when emergency services left the scene and is in surgery. A name has not been released.
It is alleged the suspect was threatening people with a large knife and a be-on-the-lookout was placed for the man Friday afternoon. There were no other wants out on the subject that are apparent at this time.
According to a source, he fled when deputies located him. The chase, which was led by GSP, ended on Highway 411 in Rydal just south of Highway 140.
Stop sticks were deployed and the Georgia State Patrol allegedly wrecked the man. He then fled on foot before officers attempted to tase the suspect, unsuccessfully. He was sprayed with pepper spray and hit three times with bean bag rounds, according to a source. He was reportedly shot twice by the BCSO.
Sheriff Clark Millsap declined to comment when contacted about 11 p.m. Officials with the BCSO also declined to comment, citing a lack of information at that time.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in, which is standard in officer-involved shootings, and was reportedly en route about 11:30 p.m.
The Bartow County Sheriff's Office was involved in two deadly shootings in 2010, including one in December. Deputies also underwent training earlier this year to use tasers acquired through a grant to the department.
