He was born August 8, 1947 in Cleveland, Tenn. He was the oldest son of late Evelyn Gibbs and late Charles Gibbs of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., and late Roscoe Clinton Payne and Betty Payne of Canton. Larry was a truck driver, hunter and avid fisherman. He enjoyed spending his time with family and friends.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Libby Payne of White; daughter and daughter-in-law, Tammy Garrett-Smith and Marcie Smith of Hiram; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Janet Pruitt of Acworth; daughter, Karen Pruitt of Ball Ground; brother, Jerry Payne of New Market, Tenn; sister, Janice Jenkins of Strawberry Plains; brother, Steve Payne of Sevierville, Tenn.; brother, Mark Gibbs of Sevierville; sister, Sue West of Canton; brother, Roscoe Junior Payne of Canton; and brother, Greg Payne of Canton. He was a proud grandfather to Jessie, Leanna and Dylan Payne of White; Danielle Jordan of Ball Ground; Chase and Tristan Garrett of Canton; Rick, Courtney and Nikki Pruitt of Acworth; Veronica Poland and Leonard Kirby II of Harriman; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Walter Poland of Harriman, Tenn.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 21, at 2 p.m., at Awtrey-Westwood Baptist Church, 5855 Awtrey Church Road, Acworth, by the Reverend Loy Frix and long-time friend Max Williams. Arrangements by SouthCare Cremation Society and Memorial Centers in Marietta, 770-420-5557.
