Sgt. J. Davenport with the Georgia State Patrol said two other passengers were involved in the crash Sunday that claimed the life of 48-year-old Prettus Cole and injured 42-year-old Eulon Yother.

Family members told the GSP that two males ages 25 and 42 were also in the 1979 Ford pickup, but left the scene on foot after the accident. According to Davenport, all four men were ejected from the truck, two are believed to have been in the bed of the truck.

One of the men said they woke up in a field near the accident location in the area of Beasley Road and Highway 113. However, Davenport said there was a helicopter as well as people on foot searching the area. “Until we physically talk to them, we’re kind of up in the air,” he said.

The accident happened Sunday around 10 p.m. According to Davenport, the truck was traveling southbound on Highway 113, and when it left the road, the driver “overcorrected” causing the vehicle to overturn and eject the passengers.

Man chases wife with bat

A man attempted to attack his estranged wife Monday evening with a baseball bat.

The couple separated in 2009 and their children were staying with their father for the weekend. When the man went to the mother’s house to retrieve extra clothes for the boys, he became angered and allegedly chased her across the yard while holding a bat in an aggressive manner, as if to harm her.

The man was arrested and charged with simple assault in violation of the Family Violence Act.
