The Woodland Wildcats won their final regular season baseball game 7-2 Friday at South Forsyth.

Cody Baxter led off the game with a home run and, after back-to-back singles by Jacob Moore and Robert Harris, Brandon Hardin hit a two-out, two-RBI single to put the Wildcats up 3-0.

The lead proved to be enough for Woodland, which did add two runs each in the third and fifth innings.

The War Eagles scored two in the sixth.

"We basically turned it over to Jacob Moore. He threw five innings and was pretty lights-out," Wildcats coach Corey Gochee said of his ace.

Moore struck out 11 and gave up four walks and three hits. Landon Killian pitched the remaining two innings, striking out five, walking one and giving up three hits.

Baxter went 1 for 4 (RBI); Hardin went 1 for 2 (two RBIs, walk); Mason Robinson went 1 for 2 (double); Harris hit 2 for 4 (two runs); Josh Day finished 1 for 2 (double, hit by pitch); and Moore went 1 for 2 (walk, hit by pitch).

Woodland (15-10) finished its Region 7-AAAA season with a 13-7 record. Though the Wildcats tied with Creekview for the No. 2 spot, a run-differential tiebreaker -- the two teams split a pair of games -- gave the seed to the Grizzlies.

Woodland will be the third seed out of the region and will travel to Marietta to face Region 5-AAAA's runner-up Kell (20-6, 10-3).

"We'll go down there on Friday," Gochee said of a doubleheader to open the best-of-three series. "Monday through Thursday, we'll sort of revisit some fundamentals, make sure we're paying attention to detail."

The Wildcats also will have a live scrimmage, "just for our guys to stay competitive and [see] live pitching."

Despite losing out on a chance to host the first round of the GHSA state tournament, Woodland's coach believes his team has done well enough on the road this season.

"We do a very good job on the road," Gochee said of his team's 9-2 mark. "If you look at scores, we have a tendency to score a couple of runs in the first inning ... in almost every road game, so I like that."

The first game of Friday's doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. followed by Game 2, which is scheduled to start around 6:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 would be played Saturday.
