Recently, however, the Purple Hurricanes demonstrated that baseball is but a mere game and more important aspects of life prevail further away from the diamond.
At a Senior Night game Thursday at Richard Bell Field, Cartersville solicited donations for the Tigers, whose community and team were among those devastated by Wednesday's deadly tornadoes.
In an email Monday, Canes coach Stuart Chester thanked the Cartersville baseball family for their donations, which allowed Chester to deliver 12 pairs of cleats, 10 dozen baseballs, 24 dimple balls and 24 indoor balls in addition to $650 to the Ringgold team.
"Coach Brent Tucker, head coach at Ringgold High School, was very emotional and touched by our generosity," Chester added.
Further down in his email, the Cartersville coach illustrated a point that has become clear following the events of the last week.
"Baseball can be about life but never is life," Chester continued. "We are very fortunate and have been blessed."
