Cartersville Fury girls basketball players treated their mothers to a tournament championship Sunday, defeating the Blue Crush of Marietta 34-22 for the title in the Youth Basketball of America Metro Counties Shootout Tournament, which was held in Cartersville at Woodland High.

Monica Motuba led the 12-and-under Fury with 12 points and eight rebounds.

With the game drawing close, Cartersville's Julia McIntyre hit a 17-foot jump shot followed by Caroline Bagwell's 3-pointer, which helped the Fury pull away for good.

"The girls had been playing great all weekend," coach Jose Martinez said. "We told them let's win this one for the moms who gave up their day to watch you play."

In the preceding semifinal game, with the pressure on, Cartersville beat Oconee County, 41-24. Jana Morning scored 12 points, and Lexy Wallraven added 8 points.

The Fury triumphed over the Georgia Sting of Augusta in Game 2, winning by a score of 34-17. Kalisha Printup led Cartersville with 8 points and five assists. In Game 1, the Fury crushed Team Impact of Atlanta, 42-10, behind Chyna Johnson's 11 points as well as Kimora McClinic's 8 points and six rebounds.
