Steps of Faith instructor Julie Reeves explained that this year's theme, though general, relates to the recent construction of the group's new building. "Building God's Kingdom One Step at a Time just fits with everything going on," she said. The girls will perform a hodgepodge of dances, including steps from each style and form.
Kerry's School of Dance will be performing their annual spring recital Sunday. Kerry's offers instruction in ballet, tap, jazz, modern and hip hop. Students vary in ages from 1 to adult.
Students from all age groups with the Cartersville School of Ballet are working together to produce "The Little Mermaid" for their end-of-the-year recital.
"It's based on the Hans Christian Anderson 'Little Mermaid' and will have a tweak of that Disney feeling," said instructor Terry Kayser. "We use a broad spectrum of music but you're going to recognize a few things."
The performance will be held May 26 and 27 at 6:30 each night. Certain characters will be double casted for the two productions. The mermaid will be played by Rosie White and Sara Whitener while the sea witch rotates between Cara Collier and Hannah Klezesahl. This year's prince is Ian Baxter.
Smaller children in the 3-year-old group will assume roles of the underwater life, such as clown fish and shrimp. Following the story line, part of the play will be set on land and part under the sea.
The Grand Theatre is located at 7 N. Wall St., Cartersville. For more information, call the theatre at 770-386-7343.
