With overall team numbers taking a dip throughout the county, the 2011 track and field season had all the makings of a down year for Bartow girls.

Following a season in 2010 where 13 girls either qualified for state as individuals or with relay teams, or both, the recently completed season watched that number fall to just seven.

Moreover, Bartow County -- which had two state champions a year ago -- did not have a title winner this year for the first time since 2007.

Despite those bleak numbers, there were plenty of positives for the county, which saw breakout performances from The Daily Tribune News' All-County Girls Track and Field Rookie of the Year -- Woodland's Idraiah Thompson -- as well as a couple of top-eight state finishes, including a runner-up finish from The Daily Tribune News' All-County Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, Woodland's Diana Wimpy.

Below are the selections for the 2011 Daily Tribune News' All-County Girls Track and Field Team.

Long Jump

-- Ariana Lovins, Woodland: Lovins, who finished fourth at the Bartow County Championships, jumped her farthest distance of the season at the Region 7-AAAA meet. She finished fourth -- two places away from a state berth -- with a jump of 15 feet, 9 1/4 inches.

Shot Put

-- Diana Wimpy, Woodland: Wimpy won the shot put at the region meet, qualifying for state with a throw of 36-4 3/4. She did not place at this year's meet as she did in 2010, when she finished seventh.

4x400 Meter Relay

-- Woodland: Renee Arnold, Shantel McCallum, Idraiah Thompson, Lovins: The Lady Wildcats' relay team ran its season-best time during the finals of the region meet, finishing the race in 4 minutes, 14.91 seconds for fourth place. The Woodland relay team also won the county meet.

Discus

-- Wimpy, Woodland: Gunning for a second straight state title, Wimpy simply outdid herself, tossing a career-best throw of 134-10 to finish in second place. Despite a personal record, the Lady 'Cats senior had to settle for a runner-up spot on the podium. Wimpy, who also won region to qualify for state not to mention county, ends her distinguished career with two second-place finishes to go along with her crowning achievement last season.

4x100 Meter Relay

-- Woodland: Thompson, Arnold, Tiana Bush, Jasmin Askew: The Lady 'Cats, seeded No. 1 prior to the region meet, rebounded from a slightly disappointing second-place finish at that meet to run a 49.62 at state during preliminaries. It was the fastest time of the season for a relay team that featured two freshmen.

100 Meter Dash

-- Thompson, Woodland: The Lady Cats' fantastic freshman ran her best time of the year at the Army National Guard/Woodland Invitational, where she won the 100 with a 12.33. Thompson would go on to win region, qualifying for state in the process.

200 Meter Dash

-- Thompson, Woodland: After a second-place finish at region, Thompson completed her best race of the season during preliminaries at state, where she had a PR, and school record, of 25.70.

400 Meter Dash

-- Arnold, Woodland: Arnold, the county winner in the 400, turned in a season-best time of 1:02.09 at region. She placed seventh at the meet.

800 Meter Run

-- Lindsay Anderson, Cartersville: With soccer season in full swing in the month of March, Anderson did not partake in the Bartow County Championships. In late April and early May, though, Anderson returned to track full-time and ran a season-best time of 2:25.85 to win the region meet and qualify for state. The Lady Canes' senior finished fifth in prelims with a 2:31.51. Anderson also placed fourth at region in the 1,600 with a season-best 5:45.03. This all-county selection gives Anderson an unprecedented 12th selection to an all-county team. She has made all-county in each of her sports -- soccer, cross country and track -- throughout her career.

1,600 Meter Run

-- Ashley Barrera, Woodland: Barrera won the county meet and placed seventh at region by finishing in 5:48.48 -- though she came into the meet seeded fifth with a time of 5:37.27.

3,200 Meter Run

-- Barrera, Woodland: The Lady Cats' sophomore distance star ran the two-mile race in 12:35.01 at region as she finished in fourth place. Barrera won the county meet with a time of 12:22 and actually went to region seeded fourth with a time of 12:13.00.

100 Meter Intermediate Hurdles

-- Caroline Haupt, Cartersville: After happenstance and injury precluded Haupt from making it to state her first two seasons, the Lady Purple Hurricanes' junior finally punched her ticket to Albany in Year 3 by virtue of a 15.37-second time, a PR, in the 100 hurdles at the Region 7-AAA meet. In her first-ever state meet, Haupt became the only other girl in the county to place with a time of 15.40, good for sixth. She also was the county's hurdles champion at the Bartow championships.

Triple Jump

-- Haupt, Cartersville: While Haupt focused mainly on hurdles for most of the season, she demonstrated an ability to compete in other events at the Bartow County Championships, where she ran with the relay team and performed the triple jump, which she won with a distance of 29-3. Haupt was named the top female athlete at the county meet, which was held on her home turf at Cartersville.

300 Meter Low Hurdles

-- Haupt, Cartersville: Not only was Haupt able to qualify for state in her junior season, she did so in two events, taking second place at the 300 hurdles during region. At state, Haupt did not make it out of prelims, but ran a PR 47.28 for fifth place in her heat. She won the 300 hurdles at the county meet.

High Jump

-- Brianna Brown, Woodland: Brown, who won county with a jump of 5-0, improved her height at region as she fell a couple of inches shy -- 5-2 -- of qualifying for state. She placed fourth at region.

Pole Vault

-- Samantha Patterson, Woodland: Patterson won her event at county with a jump of 8-0. She jumped even better at region with a clearance of 9-0, but lost a jumpoff to Creekview's Anna Dunn, which left her with a third-place finish and out of state. The freshman's 9-foot-jump tied a school record.

Honorable mention -- Adairsville: Hannah Greeson; Cartersville: Kaelyn Irby, Jasmine Nelson; Cass: Amber Bowen, Janae Callahan, Savannah Casey, Robyn Ellenburg, Miranda Whittington; Woodland: Rachel Mez, April Morgan.
