The Cane all-stars are Colin Bennett, Ben Venters, Luke Daniel, Taylor Wilson and Sam Howard. Due to prior commitment, Howard will not play in the games.
Head coach Stuart Chester said the former Canes are good offensively and defensively and should do well in the all-star matchups. "I think they will represent us well."
Bennett led the Canes in home runs this season, hitting nine round-trippers while compiling a .320 batting average. He scored 28 runs, tagged the ball for 31 hits, five doubles, drove in 35 runs and drew 16 walks.
Venters led the team with 43 hits, crushed eight home runs, 15 doubles, one triple and drove in 38 RBIs. He was walked 12 times and batted an impressive .398.
Daniel accounted for 40 runs and 37 hits for the Canes. His bat authored six homers, eight doubles and 38 RBIs, and he drew walks 22 times while amassing a batting average of .381.
Wilson, who batted .321 and scored 25 runs, tagged the ball for 26 hits, five home runs, five doubles and 20 RBIs. He drew 22 bases on balls.
Howard amassed a sterling 7-1 record on the mound for Cartersville, with a 1.53 ERA over 59 1/3 innings. He struck out 87 and walked 22. Howard allowed 18 runs, 13 of which were earned, and surrendered 36 hits, including six home runs, five doubles and one triple.
Chester said it's good to see the Canes playing this time of the year.
"It's fun to go out there and compete against the other top guys in the state," he said. "There's no doubt [that it's good for them to play one more high school game.] As many times as you can play at the high school level you need to because that's probably the best baseball you'll play and the best time of your life."
The seniors will be playing in the 2011 Top 96/Senior All-Star Tournament at Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Northeast Georgia. They play at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Atlanta West. They play Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Southwest Georgia. On Sunday, June 5, they compete at 10 a.m. at Luther Williams Stadium in Macon against Atlanta East.
They will be wearing their Cane uniforms at the all-star games.
