Mr. Hughes was born March 22, 1931, in Bartow County, son of the late Tom Hughes and Elizabeth Clure Hughes. He was retired from C.W. Matthews and was a member of Autrey Baptist Church. Mr. Hughes loved his job and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Maddox Hughes, to whom he was married for 55 years; a daughter, Cecelia Petty; a granddaughter, Tanya Gravley; a great-grandson, Cane Henderson; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at Autrey Baptist Church with Rev. Loy Frix and Marshall Garrison officiating. Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery in Acworth, Ga.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Autrey Baptist Church.
