Georgia State Patrol Trooper Corey Lawrence on scene said a female, who was the driver of the green SUV involved in the accident, was leaving a yard sale and attempting to enter Highway 41 northbound. She was unable to clear the roadway before the second vehicle, a red pickup truck, struck her SUV, causing extensive damage.
The woman, who is in her mid-40s, was extricated by the Bartow County Fire Department and airlifted with head trauma to an undisclosed hospital. Reports were the woman was taken to Erlanger in Chattanooga, but GSP and BCFD could not confirm that just after 7 p.m. Saturday.
Another female was transported to Floyd Medical Center, according to BCFD Sgt. Lisa Hahn.
EMS personnel on the scene said the increased traffic from the weekend's yard sale event had been cause for concern among emergency personnel.
Only one minor traffic incident had been reported in Bartow County in connection with the stretch of yard sales from Emerson to Adairsville, EMS personnel said Saturday morning.
GSP reported no other serious accidents or fatalities through Saturday evening.
