Not even 24 hours into the 15th annual Junior Sunbelt Classic, a Bartow County player delivered a shining moment for Team Georgia as he led them to a dramatic win Friday in McAlester, Okla.

With the game tied, Cass High's Tyler Gates launched a game-winning grand slam against Team Canada as the Georgians took a 15-11 victory.

Colonels coach Todd Eubanks spoke to his player after the game.

"He said he's having a blast, and he's glad he had the chance to do it," said Eubanks, who will travel to Norman, Okla., with the Team Georgia senior ballclub next week.

Eubanks said the Team Georgia juniors are playing two games each day, a stretch of play that concludes Wednesday.

In addition to Gates, other Bartow players in McAlester include Kendall Hawkins of Cartersville and Cody Kremer of Adairsville.

Kremer took the hill for Team Georgia in a loss to Team Tennessee, Eubanks said.

Team Georgia is vying for its first junior title since 2009 when Purple Hurricanes pitcher Adam Clark was part of the Peach State championship team.
