Illegal immigrants ... have they violated the law? The answer is "YES", and they should not be excused for it. We have a legal way for people to immigrate into this country and many, many good people have worked hard to follow the rules, to pass the tests, to learn the language, to pay taxes, and become good law-abiding citizens. It is not an easy procedure. But it is not fair to anybody, for people to take the easier illegal short cut and get by with it.
Another point in favor of not allowing illegals to stay in this country is the fact that many of them hold jobs, while millions of law-abiding citizens can't find a job. And, of course, there is also the consideration of the enormous cost for us taxpayers to provide them with all the free benefits they now receive.
Democrats have long believed in big government. They like welfare programs, like to give handouts and make more people depend on the government. By some estimates, almost 50% of the population is now getting some form of welfare. This encourages laziness and irresponsibility; but, of course, it buys votes. It is painfully obvious that Obama is strongly promoting this way of life. If it means the ruination of the country, so be it! He already has the support of, most of the welfare people, all of the big labor bosses whom he is buying with unwise concessions, most of the immense number of government workers, and a few other people who should know better. And beyond any doubt, he will spare no effort to add the millions of illegal immigrants to his list of supporters by giving them amnesty and voting rights. If he succeeds with this move, it likely could be the end of our two party system. After that, the Democrats will be safely entrenched and free to run their socialist form of government. But the big problem with Socialism is that after a while, you run out of other people's money. Usually a Dictator takes over at that point.
If we really want to solve the illegal immigrant problem, building fences isn't the answer. As someone said, show me a ten-foot fence and I will show you a twelve-foot ladder. If we make and enforce a law that illegal people cannot be given a job and are not eligible for any sort of welfare, the ones that are here will quickly disappear and others will not be tempted to come here.
If you feed a stray cat, the cat will surely hang around and probably be joined by more cats. If you want to get rid of them, you don't need to build fences ... just stop feeding them. If you do, the cats will find another place to hang out.
Of course, no law will work if it is not enforced and as long as the Obama Administration refuses to enforce even the laws we have, the situation is not going to get any better.
