One person was taken by air ambulance to an undisclosed hospital Sunday just before noon after an accident on Interstate 75 near mile marker 302.

The single vehicle wreck, approximately four miles from Adairsville, shut down all southbound lanes for nearly an hour as Bartow County Fire, EMS, Georgia State Patrol and Bartow County Sheriff's Office assessed the situation and treated victims.

At this time the cause of the accident has not been released and it is unknown if there were other victims in the crash.

From the Interstate, only the top of what appeared to be an SUV was visible down an embankment. Debris littered the grass, causing no further traffic hazard. The vehicle appeared to have suffered severe damage.

Bartow Dispatch initially stated that a 12-year-old boy was unconscious due to injuries, but that has not yet been verified.
