Two men drowned Sunday afternoon at different Lake Allatoona day use areas. According to Bartow County Fire Department Battalion Chief Bryan Cox, a 17-year-old male drowned at the Clark Creek campground off of Glade Road in Acworth at around 4 p.m. The victim's name has not been released.

According to Sgt. Jonathan Rogers of the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, the teen lacked swimming skills when he went under the water with a group of friends. No foul play or alcohol involvement has been suspected.

The second drowning, which is believed to have occurred at around 7:30 p.m., also was in Acworth near Lucille Avenue just over the Cobb County line. Jurisdiction of that incident was turned over to Cobb County responders. No further information was available at press time.

Possible electrical spark ignites fire

A fire at 507 Burnt Hickory Road erupted just after 4 p.m. Sunday. Capt. Darrell Abernathy with the Bartow County Fire Department stated that it appeared to be an electrical issue under the floor. The structure of the home remains intact, but a portion of the floor received significant damage. No injuries were sustained.
