Mr. Donald Roy Ponder, 73, of White, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, July 20, 2011.

A native of Bartow County, born Dec. 17, 1937, he was the son of the late Roy W. Ponder and the late Edna Estelle Rogers Ponder. Along with his parents, Mr. Ponder is preceded in death by his brother, Larry Aaron Ponder.

Mr. Ponder retired from Lockheed Martin after 34 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Head Usher. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army and also served several years in the Naval Air Reserve.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty Jean Ponder of White; his daughter, Donna P. Dexter; his grandson, Nicholas Lee and wife, Laurie; his brother, Leonard Ponder and wife, Beverly; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Duvall and Rev. Alan Crosby officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with the American Legion Carl Boyd Post #42 in charge of military rites.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville.
