Schools to host open houses, classes resume next week

Bartow County and city of Cartersville school systems will be back in full swing next week, with each system holding open house.

Cartersville schools will hold open house on the following: Cartersville Primary School for first and second grade, Monday, Aug. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m., and Kindergarten on Wednesday, Aug. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m.; Cartersville Elementary School, Aug. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m.; Cartersville Middle School, Aug. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. with sixth-grade on Aug. 2 from 4 to 6 p.m.; Cartersville High School, Aug. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. with freshman on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. in the CHS auditorium.

Bartow schools will hold open house for elementary and pre-K on Aug. 2 from 4 to 6 p.m.; middle school on Aug. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.; high schools on Aug. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Notable dates for both systems: Thanksgiving break, Nov. 23 to 25; Winter Holiday, Dec. 19 to 30 with students returning to school Jan. 3; winter break, Feb. 20 and 21; spring break, April 2 to 6.

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 3.

In other school news, the Bartow County Board of Education will hold its regular meeting tonight at 6 p.m. in the central office board room, 65 Gilreath Road in Cartersville.

Agenda items include:

Approval of contractor for building at Cass High, contract renewals for special education related service providers, approval of the revised 2011-2012 school calendar and approval to surplus and/or sell five school buses.
