Cartersville Police Department continues to investigate a home invasion Tuesday where a woman was assaulted and robbed.

According to CPD Lt. Mark Camp, the invasion occurred between 4:30 and 5 a.m. at the Parkview Apartments on Pine Grove Road in Cartersville. A black male suspect entered the home, robbing and assaulting the female resident. The suspect possibly gained entrance through the back door, went upstairs, confronted the victim and demanded money.

According to a news release, the victim attempted to fight off the suspect at which time the suspect cut the victim with a knife. The victim received multiple non-life threatening lacerations and was able to make her way to a neighbor’s residence for help.

Upon arrival, officers found that the suspect had fled the scene. A K-9 search was initiated, but the scent was lost in the vicinity of Old Mill Road.

The suspect was described by the victim as a black male about 5 feet 3 inches, weighing about 140 pounds. He was wearing a black tank top, long blue jean shorts, and carried a blue bandanna. The suspect was using an iPhone as a flashlight and had a gold earring in his right ear.

It is unknown at this time if the suspect and victim knew each other, and investigators continue to follow several leads in the investigation. Based on the description of the suspect, it is believed that the suspect in this incident also may be involved with recent incidents of a similar nature in the same area.

Due to the investigation and for added precaution, Cartersville Elementary School halted recess for Tuesday morning but was never on a full lockdown.

Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is urged to contact either the Cartersville Police Department at 770-382-2526 or the Cartersville-Bartow Crime Stoppers at 770-606-8477.
