Mr. Waits was born April 29, 1938, in Euharlee, son of the late Noah Claude Waits and Annie Benson Waits. Growing up he attended Floyd Creek Baptist Church. He was retired from DiCo as a truck driver and worked at the railroad for more than 20 years. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Samaritan Sunday School Class. He was member of Cartersville Country Club where he loved playing golf. Mr. Waits loved spending time with his family and friends. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the Light of his Life. He never met a stranger; was full of life and the same every time you saw him. He was preceded in death by a sister; Wilma Waits Leatherwood and a brother; Talmadge J. Waits.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Long Waits; daughters and son-in-law, Pam Waits Mitchell, and husband Terry, Lynne Waits Steber; grandsons, Corey David Hale, and wife Ashley, Jackson Noah Steber, Austin Joel Steber, Caleb Preston Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Bre, Abby and Trent; sisters, Elenor Waits Money and Daisy Waits King; brother, Cecil Edward Waits, and wife Mary Ann; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Hattaway officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Charles Wilson Sr., Huey Timms, C.L. Tidwell, Harold Gentry, Max Tatum and Charles Benson. Honorary pallbearers include the Samaritan Sunday School Class from Tabernacle Baptist Church.
