Cartersville police arrest suspect in church robbery

Cartersville Police Chief Thomas N. Culpepper announced Thursday the arrest of a suspect in connection with an attempted robbery and assault about 6 a.m. Aug. 5 at Pine Grove Church on Pine Grove Road in Cartersville. Arrested was Jerry Jerome Kilgore, 17, of 366 Old Mill Road, Apt. 507.

The arrest came after two days of police investigations, following several leads and interviewing several individuals.

Kilgore is being charged with criminal attempt to commit forced robbery, simple battery, criminal trespass under $500 damage and entering auto. According to CPD Lt. Mark Camp, Kilgore is also being charged with theft by receiving stolen property in connection with an entering auto theft that occurred in the Wellington subdivision in May.

Kilgore is currently a suspect in other recent incidents in Cartersville.

Tractor-trailer accident closes interstate Thursday morning

According to Cartersville Police Department Lt. Mark Camp, an accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car shut down two northbound lanes of Interstate 75 just south of the Main Street exit around 4:20 Thursday morning.

Camp said the truck swerved and overcorrected, causing the trailer to turn back on the truck.

No injuries were reported and EMS was refused by all parties. Lanes were reopened around 7:30 a.m., following cleanup.

Duffle bag found containing meth production items

Items used to produce methamphetamine were found at 3607 Highway 411 in White on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a deputy's report, a man discovered a blue duffle bag lying on the ground next to the tree line. Inside the bag, which was exposed, were several Mason jars, rubber tubing and an unknown acid base. A gasoline can also was located next to the bag. A Drug Task Force agent arrived on scene and disposed of the items at a HAZMAT site.

Man solicits Cartersville Jewelry Exchange employee for sodomy

An employee for Cartersville Jewelry Exchange filed a report with a Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputy Wednesday in reference to a solicitation of sodomy.

The man said that he holds the sign advertising the store in the parking lot entrance to Walmart on the Highway 20 side. According to the complainant, the same male suspect has approached him for several days, carrying on casual conversations and acting flirtatious. Wednesday, the complainant said the man threw a note at him asking for sexual favors.

The suspect is described as a white male, possibly in his late 30s, with blond hair. He is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and 175 pounds. The suspect drives a white, two-door truck, possibly a Toyota.
