Howard North Gilbert, 90, died Sunday, Aug.14, 2011, in Cartersville. Howard was born July 18, 1921, in Little Rock, Ark. to the late Francis P. and Ethel M. Gilbert (Poland). Howard graduated from Lyndhurst High in New Jersey in 1937 and at the age of 16 attended Newark College of Engineering and had a long career in mechanical engineering. Howard married Ida May Gilbert in 1955 in Philadelphia and subsequently lived in Warwick, R.I.; Warminster, Pa.; Roxborough, Pa.; Englewood, Fla.; Quarryville, Pa.; and Cartersville.

Howard and Ida were married for 56 years, and Ida died Aug. 6, 2011. Howard is survived by his three children, Kenneth (Catherine) Gilbert of Columbus, Ohio; Janet (John) Seebeck of Camp Hill, Pa.; and Robert (Sandy) Gilbert of Cumming; and two grandchildren that he dearly loved, Robert Wesley Seebeck of Camp Hill, Pa. and Matthew Bennett Gilbert of Cumming. Howard was the brother of Charles Gilbert of Warwick, R.I.; Ethel Henry of Mars Hill, N.C., and the late Frank Gilbert, Betty Polhemus, Lottie Schiffman and Francis Gilbert.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service for both Ida and Howard Gilbert at Rowland Springs Baptist Church, 79 Rowland Springs Road, Cartersville, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug .20, to be followed by refreshments at the community center where Ida and Howard lived, the Cove Apartments, 90 Liberty Square Drive NE, Cartersville. An additional memorial service to be held in Philadelphia is being planned for September to be coordinated by Ida and Howard's children.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Rowland Springs Baptist Church or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
