Entering Tuesday's tri-match with a relaxed approach seemed to work wonders for the Cass volleyball team as the Lady Colonels downed two of their rivals, Cartersville and host Woodland, by scores of 2-0.

Cass defeated the Lady Purple Hurricanes 25-18, 25-13 and followed suit with a 25-21, 25-12 win against the Lady Wildcats.

"The girls did real well tonight," Lady Colonels coach Jamie Horton said. At practice on Monday, Horton encouraged his players to enjoy themselves.

"Sometimes, as coaches and parents, you just gotta step back and let 'em have fun and let 'em play," he added. "They want to have fun. ... They just went out there and performed and had fun with it."

The Cass coach said that was not always the case due to pressure players may have felt to win.

However, an offseason of rigorous effort and newfound attitude have led to more wins for the Lady Colonels (10-5), who have already eclipsed last season's six-win mark.

"The girls put in a lot of work starting in the spring. Some of them played club," Horton said. "They put in the work and now they're starting to see the dividends from it. It's a lot more fun when you win, of course."

Cass plays in a quad match Thursday at North Paulding.
