Stephanie Rosser delivered at the mound but didn’t notch a win Tuesday as Excel fell to North Cobb Christian in its home opener, 5-0.

The Lady Eagles stood toe to toe with North Cobb for five innings but let the visitors score one run in the sixth and four in the seventh — all unearned — as their overall record for the season dropped to 1-4, 0-2 in Region 6A-A.

Head coach Kandi Bruno said the Lady Eagles played tough behind Rosser, who repeatedly pitched her way out of jams while forcing North Cobb to strand eight runners.

“Stephanie did well,” Bruno said. “She had nine strikeouts on the mound and led us offensively. She put the ball in play every time she batted.”

She hit a double for Excel but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

Bruno said North Cobb pitching frustrated Excel’s batters.

“We didn’t do much offensively,” she said. “Their pitcher had pretty good movement and kept us off balance.”

She said she liked how her the Lady Eagles played the first six innings.

“They played great until the seventh inning,” she said. “We made a couple of errors and we just couldn’t come back.

“We’re really young and we got a late start. We are still learning but we are definitely going in the right direction.”

North Cobb Christian improved to 4-0, 2-0 in 6A-A with the victory.

Excel next plays Tuesday, when it hosts region foe Trion. Game time is at 5 p.m.
