On Sept. 13, 2011, Harriette Speer Parker went home to be with the Lord. She was 88 years old.

A native of Atlanta, has lived in Cartersville since September 2004. Harriette graduated Cum Laude from Atlanta Girls High and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Georgia. She joined the Public Relations staff of Delta Air Lines in 1946 and retired in 1983. She was an active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Cartersville and participated in the Bartow County Senior Center activities and the Etowah Valley Women's Connection.

Her husband, Robert S. (Bob) Parker, preceded her in death in 2005. She is survived by two step-daughters, Elaine Vess and Shirley Cordell, both of Cartersville; two grandsons, Parker Vess and Michael Vess; five granddaughters, Charmin Waits, Taylor Cordell, Tyler Cordell, and Alexis Cordell, all of Cartersville, and Melissa Vess of Rock Hill, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Beecham, Hayden Waits and Jamie Cordell; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at Owens Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, with Pastor Clinton Green of Pine Grove Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m.
