"I asked the board to extend my contract for another year to 2014 ... and I'm very pleased with [their vote]," Harper said after the board's regular meeting.
In other board news, Harper again addressed concerns from last week's work session on the piece of property on which the new Emerson Elementary School is to be built.
Board member Wanda Cagle Gray said she was concerned with language on the second survey on the site that reads, "... Since this property lies in an area that has been surface mined, the school system needs to do everything possible to make sure that the area being built on is structurally stable for building the school."
"It sounds like based on the [test] boring report it's a good piece of property," Harper said.
