Bailey retiring, will not seek re-election as tax commissioner

Bartow County Tax Commissioner VaLenda Bailey announced Friday that she will not seek re-election in 2012. Bailey, who has served in the tax office for 38 years, plans to retire at the end of her term.

"They say you will know when it is time to retire," she said in the announcement. "Recently, I realized that I am ready to retire.

"It had been my pleasure to have worked in the tax office for more than half my lifetime. When I retire at the end of next year, I will have worked 38 years in the tax office."

Bailey acknowledged co-workers in the office, as well as the people of Bartow County in her announcement. She also addressed those who will seek to fill her position.

"I know that several people have plans to seek the position of tax commissioner, and I wish them all well."
