At No. 35 out of the top 150 Mainland U.S. Large Resorts, Barnsley Gardens is one of three Georgia resorts to make the cut and received the highest ranking of the three.
"Barnsley is just a magical place, it's one that someone could come and find ultimate relaxation and there's a really historic beginning which I think is engaging in and of itself," said Director of Marketing Sharon Ordono Cohen, adding that these traits paired with customer service have led to a significant number of regular visitors. "When a guest returns after being to the resort the first time, they're always recognized by name. So, we kind of become their family or extended family, so to speak."
Selected by guests, the Readers' Choice Awards rank resorts in the areas of: rooms, services, food/dining, location, overall design and activities/facilities. From these criteria, Barnsley received an overall rating of 89.9.
"That rating is typically based on service items, everything from guest services to housekeeping -- just the overall experience. It tends to be more about engagement with the staff themselves and I think because Barnsley Gardens goes above and beyond what a guest would typically expect in a hotel, I think that helps to garner our higher ratings," Cohen said.
Among the service-oriented offerings at Barnsley is the resort's signature personalization provided by the Fairy Godmother. The Fairy Godmother is on staff to create a memorable experience for guests.
"The Fairy Godmother's role is to enhance a guest's stay. She'll often anticipate a guest's need before they even realize that they need it. She may get wind that somebody is suffering from cancer, so she'll do something special for them to lift their spirits," Cohen said. "We do the same thing for birthdays, anniversaries and she also does Love Spells. So if someone is celebrating an anniversary, she'll fill the room with candles and all sorts of additives that go along with that."
According to a release from the resort, more than 8 million votes were cast by readers in compilation of the awards list. Also included in the release was a list of recent awards and honors.
"This latest achievement caps a vast list of recent accolades, including the following Condé Nast Traveler's honors: 2009 and 2010 'Best In World Reader's Choice,' 'Gold List' in 2009 and 2010, 'Top 100 Resort Spas' in 2010 and 2011, and being ranked No. 2 out of 20 Southern U.S. Golf Resorts in 'Top 125 Golf Resorts.' Additionally, the resort was also named a 2010 'Silver Medalist Golf Course' by Golf Magazine, designated as the 2008 and 2007 GGCOA 'Course of the Year,' received a 4.5 Star Rating in Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play" 2007, Travel + Leisure's '500 World's Best Hotels,' Condé Nast 'Johansens Recommendation' in 2007, and garnered an 'Extraordinary' rating by the Zagat Survey of America's Top Golf Courses (2007/2008)," stated the release.
