Alton Lacey "Spud" Willis, 80, of Calico Valley Road, Rydal, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011.

Mr. Willis was born May 8, 1931, in Bartow County, the son of the late Lester David and Beaulah Lacey Willis; was retired from Bartow County, where he was Transportation Director; was a Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force; and was a member of Olive Vine Baptist Church in Rydal.

Mr. Willis was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Matthew (Matt) Pelfrey; a brother, Johnny Willis; and a son-in-law, Max Brown.

Surviving is his wife Evelyn Willis, who he married April 16, 1959; a son, Timothy Scott Willis; two daughters, Vickey Gercak and her husband, Steve, Melinda Arens Brown, all of Rydal; nine grandchildren, Lacey Pelfrey Huskins (Jeremy), Allison Quick (Barry), Ben Cole (Marla), Joshua and Caleb Arens, Sarah Brown, Lester, Jackie and Dustin Willis; three great grandchildren, Ethan Cole, Lindsey and Megan Quick; two sisters, Dora Lou Summey (Jerry) of Rydal, Jane Scoggins (Harris) of Rydal; a brother, Jack Willis (Lorene) of Adairsville; and a several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home at 4 p.m. with Rev. Sanford Fountain officiating.

Burial will follow in Olive Vine Baptist Church Cemetery in Rydal.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5 to 9 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Al Willis, Jeff Summey, Mike Scoggins, Myron Scoggins, Ben Cole, Mitchell Scoggins, Mark Scoggins and Barry Quick.

Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, is in charge of the arrangements.
