Patrolman Clay Daniel Burch, 35, of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday evening, Oct. 25, following a sudden attack suffered while hunting.

Clay was born Oct. 10, 1976, in Floyd County, son of Melvin J. Burch and Rachel Howell Saul Burch. He was a graduate of Ridgeland High School in Walker County and had been a patrolman with the Calhoun City Police Department for four years and was presently on the High Risk Search Warrant Team.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Billy and Elizabeth Burch and Mack and Lillie Mae Howell.

Besides his parents, Clay is survived by his loving wife, Dawn Dunaway Burch; a daughter, Madelyn Burch, both of Calhoun; three brothers, Brian Saul of Fla., Todd Saul and his wife Carol of Cartersville and Kelly Burch and his wife Tracy of Chickamauga; his in-laws, Tina and Jimmy Moore of Plainville and Dewey and Karen Dunaway of Calhoun; his brother-in-law, Dewey Dunaway Jr.; a sister-in-law, Keisha McDaniel and her husband Andrew, all of Calhoun; five nieces, two nephews and one great-niece also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. from the Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Redwine officiating. Burial with honors will follow in the Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers include Seth Densmore, Harris Housley, Tony Pyle, Tony Cedano, Jack Hemby, Jeremy Tinch, David Nelson and Tom Petty. The Calhoun Police Department as well as all public safety personnel will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Friday evening at Trinity Baptist Church from 5 to 9 p.m.
