Persistent drizzle through much of Friday night’s Rockmart-Adairsville football game guaranteed that there would be no fireworks in the Region 7A-AA contest. At one point, the two teams could not even keep pace offensively with Game 7 of Major League Baseball’s World Series. Eventually, however, the host Tigers crossed the goal line, late in the third quarter, and added a game-clinching safety as Adairsville’s defense pitched a shutout in a 9-0 victory.
The Tigers sewed up the No. 2 seed in their sub-region with their Senior Night win and will play the No. 3 seed out Region 7B-AA for a chance to advance to the state playoffs.
Elsewhere in Bartow County action, Cartersville blanked visiting Pickens, 30-0, while Woodland dropped its final home game to Creekview, 43-35.
Cass was off this week but returns to the gridiron next Friday for its season finale.
