With early voting underway, the city of Kingston prepares for next week's election in which two council seats and the mayor will be voted on.

Campaign signs can be seen throughout town in yards from Hardin Bridge Road to Highway 293. The race for Kingston's Post 2 council seat will be decided between current Councilman Billy Sanders and opposing candidate Harold Posey.

Sanders won the election two years ago against Posey to fill a vacant seat. Sanders has served on the council once before prior to the current term.

Returning to his hometown of Kingston in retirement, Posey too has experience as an elected official serving on the Cobb County Board of Education for 18 years.

Both men seek to improve the town citing infrastructure needs including roads and the water system.

Name: Billy Sanders

Occupation: Retired from General Electric

Education: Graduate of Summer Hill High School

Family: Widower with eight children and 15 grandchildren

Why are you running?

A. I want to be re-elected. I'm already in there and I want to go back.

What makes you the best candidate?

A. I've been in there before and I know how things go. I know what the people want and I try to provide it for them.

What would you like to accomplish if re-elected?

A. I want to get things done instead of just tabling everything. Everything we try to work out, they want to table it. They don't get nothing done. I want to complete the job if we want to do something.

I would like to get some of these streets paved, especially going down toward the school house -- it's getting dangerous.

Name: Harold Posey

Occupation: Retired from State Farm Insurance

Education: Berry College High School, Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University, Juris Doctor degree from Woodrow Wilson College of Law

Family: Married to Elizabeth Ferguson Posey for 50 years, two children and five grandchildren

Why are you running?

A. To serve the citizens of Kingston and I want to do it in a positive way for the improvement in the operation of our city.

What makes you the best candidate?

A. I have over 30 years experience as a successful business owner with State Farm and I have previously held a publicly elected position on the Cobb County Board of Education for 18 years. I understand the process and importance of budgeting as well as the role and responsibility of elected officials.

What would you like to accomplish if elected?

A. I would like to see better communication between the city and our citizens. I want to have a harmonious working relationship with whoever the mayor may be and I want to work with the mayor to establish a plan for replacing the old cast iron water lines and to improve, in general, our water delivery system.
