According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, the office has seen an increase in burglaries mainly concentrated on the Northern half of Bartow County in the past month. While investigators are actively seeking to solve the burglaries, public assistance may help catch those responsible faster.
Sheriff Millsap is reminding citizens to lock their doors and windows when away from home and, most importantly, to report suspicious activity to 911 immediately. According to the BCSO, a common ruse for burglars is to knock on the door of a prospective victim to see if anyone is at home. If someone answers the door, they may give some random reason for knocking (lost dog, looking for a friend, wrong house). The BCSO warns that i f someone knocks on your door, and they seem surprised when you answer or don't seem to have a valid reason for being in the area, call 911 as soon as possible so law enforcement can check the area.
With the holiday seasons approaching, it is very important to remain vigilant in keeping watch over the community for the safety of all citizens.
As with other crimes, citizens can remain anonymous when requesting law enforcement response from 911. Residents also can call with information to the Cartersville-Bartow County Crimestoppers (770-606-TIPS) where they may receive a reward if an arrest is made from the information provided. The criminal investigations division may be reached at 770-382-5050 ext. 6029 or 6030.
