SPLOST, package sales in Cartersville and Kingston gain favorable vote

Vote counts are beginning to be released at the courthouse annex serving as voting central.

In initial numbers:

- The countywide Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax shows more than 60 percent voting yes.

- Cartersville Sunday alcohol sales also passed with roughly 60 percent.

- Cartersville City School Board vote winners appear to be Linda Benton over Saunders Jones III and Travis Popham over Clift Dempsey.

- Charles Lowry and Terry Webb lead in the Emerson City Council race, with Gary Twelkemeier close behind.

- Incumbent Steve Worthington trails Craig Guyton, with the two men leading the race for two at-large Euharlee council seats.

- White City Council appears to be incumbent Lavonda Roberts and newcomer Jimmy Bennett.

- Kingston will have a new mayor in Ron Casey, with incumbent Dexter Jones in second.

- Kingston City Council: Post 2 Harold Posey over Billy Sanders. Post 3 Elbert Wise Jr. over Vivian Shaw.

- Kingston Referendum for Sunday Alcohol Sales: Yes 50.54 percent, No 49.46 percent. Preliminary Unofficial numbers have Kingston Sunday Sales passing by two votes, 93 for - 91 against.
