Shoppers may need to be on higher alert this holiday season when searching for new clothes after reports have been filed with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office of syringes being found in new items.

On Nov. 22, a mother filed a report saying a syringe was found in a brand new pair of children's pajamas purchased at Walmart. The daughter was stuck in the right pinky finger and the left foot when she was putting on the clothing.

Another report was filed five days later by another Walmart shopper who said she was stuck when she was looking at a package of bras.

Both victims were checked by medical personnel for possible contamination.

The BCSO is conducting an investigation into possible suspects, which includes pulling video surveillance of the store.

"Anytime you buy clothing it's always best to check it and make sure there's nothing in there to hurt you," BCSO Investigator and Public Information Officer Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said.

According to Rogers, Walmart has conducted their own search and found other syringes. Suspects have not been identified at this time.

Anyone with information on this issue is encouraged to contact Cartersville-Bartow Crime Stoppers at 770-606-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous and information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward.
