Scott was born April 24, 1964, in Coronado, Calif., the son of the late Roger Wesley and Jane (Meadow) Harper and was of the Methodist faith.
Scott was a Coronado High School alumnus, class of 1985, was a former reporter for the Coronado Eagle and graduated from San Diego City College in 1990 with a degree in journalism. He was passionate about working with youth and was both a coach and referee for soccer for more than 20 years, including work for San Diego Surf and The Boys and Girls Club of Solana Beach. He relocated to Cartersville in 2000 where he was a paraprofessional/teaching assistant for special education and disabled students, as well as assistant coach for Woodland High Schools boys and girls soccer teams. He also coached Bartow County Parks and Recreation boys 10-and-under soccer teams and was a referee for many soccer clubs. Scott was a volunteer instructor for the U.S. Navy Sea Cadets.
Surviving is his sister, Lynn Harper of Cartersville, formerly of Coronado, and his fiance, Robin Fredrickson, of Cartersville, formerly of Coronado.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, at noon in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Jacobs officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 11 a.m. until noon.
