Longtime coach, administrator and educator Larry Parker announced Monday he will be leaving his seat over Ward 5 for the Bartow County Board of Education.

"I loved every minute of it, it was a great experience for me and we're very blessed to have the quality board members we've had," Parker said Tuesday. "I just think that I've got a short time to do some stuff, and I think that I need to go ahead and make that decision and try to make the things that I really need to do with what time I've got left as far as what I owe Bartow County, which is a lot because it's been great to me."

Parker, who served as principal of Adairsville High School and Adairsville Middle School, would have finished out his first term in 2012. He hopes to continue serving the local school systems through different avenues and appreciates the work of all those in the public schooling sector.

"We're obviously blessed to have [Superintendent] Dr. [John] Harper and the central office staff we have there, and of course being an old principal, I couldn't be happier with what's happening in our individual schools," Parker said.
