Hoyt Larry Grier, 65, of Old Alabama Road, Emerson, passed away Wednesday evening. Mr. Grier was born Dec. 24, 1946 in Cherokee County, son of the late Grady Grier and Ruby Odessa Bennett Grier. He was retired from Bellsouth; was a member of Atco Baptist Church and was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger Grier; sisters-in-law, Shirley Grier and Betty Grier.

Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Margaret Strain Grier; sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew Neil Grier, and his wife Cheyenne, Steven Lamar Grier, and his wife Courtney; grandchildren, Skylar Grier and Matthew Grier; brothers and sisters, Billy Grier, Ellis Grier, and wife Blanche, Rudean McClure, and husband Emmett, Jimmy Grier, Sue Maynard, and husband Ronnie; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Grier and Rev. Calvin Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Emerson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
