Cartersville residents can now link to the city's police department via social networking sites Twitter and Facebook.

According to CPD's Lt. Mark Camp, the sites will be used to post alerts and advisories. This presence comes on the heels of the department's addition to the Nixle free alert system for smartphones, following the example first set forth in the region by the Adairsville Police Department.

"One of our goals for the past year and continuing into this year has been better communication not just within the department, but also with the citizens as well," Camp said. "Hopefully we will soon have the Twitter and Facebook links on the city website so that folks can check for any urgent news they need to be concerned about."

Citizens can "like" the department on Facebook by searching for "Cartersville Police Department" and follow on Twitter under CartersvillePD.
