A passenger car struck a train in White just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, killing 77-year-old Edward Brumfield.

According to the Bartow County Fire Department, the vehicle hit the train at Cass-White Road and Highway 411 and burst into flames. The fire was extinguished shortly after 11.

Brumfield, who was the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

BCFD personnel said the vehicle was upside down in a pond below the railroad tracks.

CSX representatives and Georgia State Patrol troopers also are on scene.
